Dear Father Ocean
You are vast and beautiful. You take care of our Mother Earth. You provide oxygen and help maintain our climate.
Father, you are home to 200,000 species that we know of and more than 2 million species that are still a mystery to your human children.
Father, thank you for being so forgiving. Thank you for loving us unconditionally.
You must know by now of Coronavirus. Many people are scared. They pollute more than before. And father it is not because they don’t love you. They are scared so they use more single-use plastic items because it is more convenient and safer.
I know. I know… There are other alternatives and ways to protect themselves. Father, we promise to do better. We promise to use less plastic.
I hear your ocean, you are worried that plastic waste threatens marine life and that disposable masks floating like jellyfish and waterlogged latex gloves litter seabeds.
But father have you seen how many people woke up to the pollution of plastic straws and many made an effort to help save the turtles?
Yes, I know. There are still straws floating in your waters. And now masks are the new straws.
Then what should we do? Should we raise more awareness? Should we propose reusable masks, should we ask people to recycle? Or just do it all.
Father, please forgive them. As many just don’t know. Some are unaware of the harm they cause.
Father, I painted your portrait to show your magnificence. People are struck by your beauty. I painted you as you are, strong and powerful, but yet loving and carrying to those who you shelter. I painted you getting rid of the last mask that was in your waters. I painted you finally plastic-free.
May this portrait of yours float in the streams of the internet to help inspire others to be compassionate towards you father ocean, and to your creations.
Much love,
Your human daughter
