Connecting Humans To Nature: The Burning Man Experience
Jun 29, 2020
Would you like to know how the Animalize World Mural tour started?
It all began with a 52 feet mural! Yes, that was the first mural I have ever done. It was terrifying at first. I often ask myself if I am doing the right things and if I am capable of.
I had to remind myself of the principle of living my life outside of my comfort zone. And here I was planning my first gigantic mural that probably around 80,000 people will see at Burning Man!
To prepare for the mural, I went to Venice beach in California to practice spray painting, which was also something that I had never done before until then.
Besides that, I contacted Chris Dyer and other artists to ask for their advice and how they would approach this piece. As the artwork itself had to be painted on a truck, which means metal. So I had to make sure that the paint will stick to the material during the high heat in the desert.
Oh, by the way, for those who don’t know what burning man is...
Burning Man is an annual week-long experiment in a temporary community. They're dedicated to anti-consumerism and self-expression. The Burning Man Art Festival is where people are free to be themselves without any limitations.
Sounds pretty cool, right?!
From what you can understand, many open-minded people go to Burning Man. Not only that, their hearts are open to learn and to connect. I decide to paint primates eyes since they’re the closest resemblance to humans, and it would be the best gaze to connect through to the animal kingdom.

I learned a lot through this experience; the temperature in the desert was fluctuating from high heat to freezing cold. One day, I would be getting a sunstroke, and another day I would be freezing my fingers off.
Despite all that, I fell in love painting in nature and having a fantastic team who was there every step of making sure that I had everything I needed. And this is what inspired me to travel and to be in an environment that nourishes my soul.
